While a fat cat can be exceedingly cute, feline obesity is no laughing matter. Obesity can lead to a variety of unhealthy conditions and habits. If you are concerned about your cat's weight, let us know and we will be glad to guide you in an epic journey to slim down your kitty!

We dedicate this page to our brave weight warriors, our biggest losers!

Max!

Max was surrendered at the Cat Hospital in September 2006.  At that time he weighed a whopping 28 pounds!  He was not able to play with toys or jump the height of a small footstool.  Sometimes he had trouble breathing while he was lying still because of his weight.  Max was switched to a high-protein diet while he lived at the clinic for 6 months.  As he lost weight, Max began playing with toy mice and enjoyed jumping up to his favorite chair for a nap.  Max found a home with one of the Cat Hospital veterinary assistants in March 2007.  By that time, he had lost 8 pounds, 28% of his body weight!  Max was a bit shy in his new home, but he gradually became best friends with his new sister, Maya.

As of January 2010, Max weighs 13.5 pounds.  He has lost 52% of his body weight and is very handsome.  His favorite toy is the plastic tab off the top of a milk jug- he will play with one for hours!  Max loves to jump from the floor to the back of the sofa, showing just how athletic he's become.  From a chair, he can launch himself more than 6 feet across the room!  Max is no longer a shy cat.  His favorite spots are on his mom's lap or snuggling in bed.  It's truly amazing what a different cat Max has become!
